Box Brothers Review & Gameplay Guide
I just spent the last few hours playing Box Brothers and I've got to say, it's been a wild ride. I'd seen some ads for it online and thought it looked kind of cool, but I wasn't really sure what to expect. The game's premise is pretty simple - you and your brother are boxes, and you've got to navigate through levels, solving puzzles and avoiding obstacles to reach the end. Sounds easy, right? Wrong. This game is way harder than it looks.
At first, I was getting frustrated with the controls. The boxes have a bit of momentum to them, so it takes some getting used to. You've got to time your jumps just right, or you'll end up stuck in a corner or worse, falling off the edge of the level. But once I got the hang of it, I started to really enjoy the challenge. The levels are all really well-designed, with some clever puzzles that require you to think outside the box (no pun intended). I found myself yelling at the screen a few times when I messed up, but it was always in a good way.
One thing that really stood out to me was the graphics. The game has this super cute, colorful aesthetic that's just really fun to look at. The levels are all themed around different environments, like cities and forests, and they're all full of little details that add to the charm. The sound design is also top-notch - the music is catchy and the sound effects are all really satisfying. I especially love the little "whump" sound that plays when you jump into a new area.
As I played through the levels, I started to notice that the game was getting progressively harder. The puzzles were getting more complex, and the obstacles were getting more treacherous. I died a lot, but it never felt frustrating - it always felt like I could have done something differently to avoid it. And when I finally beat a level, it was such a great feeling. I'd pump my fist in the air and shout "yes!" (much to the amusement of my cat, I'm sure). The game's also got a really great sense of progression - as you complete levels, you unlock new areas and new boxes to play as.
If I've got any criticisms, it's that the game can be a bit short. I managed to beat it in about 5 hours, which isn't a lot of time. However, the game does have a lot of replay value - there are tons of secrets to find, and the levels are all really well-designed, so you can play through them multiple times and still find new things to discover. And the game's also got a really great online feature - you can play co-op with a friend, which is a ton of fun. We spent a few hours playing together, and it was some of the most fun I've had gaming in a long time.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend Box Brothers to anyone who's looking for a fun, challenging platformer. It's not perfect, but it's a really great game that's well worth your time. The graphics are cute, the sound design is great, and the gameplay is really addictive. And who knows, you might even have as much fun playing it as I did - just don't say I didn't warn you about the frustration factor!
